Well first off make sure you have WINRAR, Q-xpress, jZIP, ect. Make sure you created a Download folder, and Make sure you have a mesh. If it still contuines to have errors these downloads are not compatable with your game :L

1. First you need to create a folder in your EA Games-Sims 2 folder and name it ‘Downloads’. Then download an extraction program like WinRar. Http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm You need this because most Sims 2 downloads are in compressed files to reduce size and make it faster to download. I suggest making a dummy folder on your desktop to put downloads in before moving them to the actual ‘Downloads’ folder. It can named whatever you like. Also download the Color Enabler Package. 2. After installing WinRar, choose something you want to download from a site you like. A popular site is http://modthesims2.com/ . Select an item and click ‘save’. Save it to the dummy folder on your Desktop. Make sure you download any meshes it requires. A mesh is a base model for new items. You don’t need it if it’s a recolor of a Maxis item. If it’s a .zip file, you don’t need to use WinRar if you don’t want to. Just double click on the item and it will unzip.
3. Open WinRar and find the items you downloaded. Right click on the item and select ‘extract files…’ and then find the EA Games- Sims 2-Downloads folder. After you’ve extracted the items to the ‘Downloads’ folder you can delete the original file from the dummy folder since you’ve extracted the items you need.
4. Start up you Sims 2 game and in Neighborhood view make sure you enable custom content.

* Some items come in SimPack form. When you first download them they will have a blue and white icon next to them. These files do not need to be extracted in Winrar. They can be placed directly into your EA Games-Sims 2- Downloads folder. Then just double click on them and a blue box will come up asking if you want to install the content. Click ‘yes’ and it will install.
* I suggest making sub folders within the EA Games-Sims 2- Downloads folder with names like ‘clothing’, ‘hair’, etc. Because you will probably end up with hundreds of downloads over time and things can get confusing if they aren’t organized.
* As you get better at downloading and extracting the files you can just place them directly in the EA Games-Sims 2- Downloads folder and right click on them. There is an option to extract the files directly into the folder, but I don’t recommend this to first timers.

The downloads from the sims 2 page such as lots,sims and other stuff,after you click download they are automatically downloaded to your pc.Then they appear as new icons on your desktop and all you have to do is click on them and then click “import” and after they are imported in the game.But before that you have to make sure that your pc opens them with the program “package installer” (if you don’t know where it is simply search it before,this “package installer” has something to do with the program “body shop”) or else you can’t import them in the game..

Just go into The Sims 2 file, create a new file and name it Downloads. It will still work just the same, and then you can put all your downloads in there and keep them nice and tidy! (:
