Representatives of the construction industry have joined the World Climate Summit debates to discuss the importance of energy efficient housing.
The talks are being held around the world in Copenhagen, Mexico City, Brussels and Aspen.
Representing the sector will be the World Green Building Council, the largest coalition representing the industry.
Jane Henley, chief executive of the council, commented on the significance of the business: “The built environment is unrivalled in its potential to deliver global carbon emission reductions, cost effectively while simultaneously meeting local socio-economic priorities such as energy security, job creation, and delivering affordable housing.”
Michael Mathres, co-founder of the World Climate Summit, also acknowledged its importance, reminding those in power that the construction industry is responsible for more than “40 per cent of global carbon emissions”.
He added: “It is imperative that we find business solutions to this important global sector, and we are delighted that the World Green Building Council will help us achieve this.”
