Windpower a Vehicle for Industry Announcements

Texas, United States –Over the years Windpower has served as a hub not only for industry deals but major company announcements as well, and Windpower 2010 was no different. Here are just a few of the announcements made by industry members.

Alstom To Build Turbine Assembly Facility in U.S.

Alstom will soon open a wind turbine assembly facility in Amarillo, Texas, the company announced. The facility, which is slated to be operational in the summer of 2011, will result in the creation of 275 full-time engineering, production, and technical support jobs. The company will produce 1.6-MW and 3-MW turbines at the facility, which will have an 800-MW annual capacity. 

DMI Does Transportation

With AWEA CEO Denise Bode on hand to offer her congratulations and support, tower producer DMI Industries said it will team up with affiliate E.W. Wylie Corp. on a new transportation logistics business for large-scale components. Naturally DMI will haul its tower segments to the wind power project sites of its customer developers, but it said the business will also service other manufacturing companies as well, transporting such large components as blades and nacelles.

Ohio Teams With GE on Offshore

Ohio Governor Ted Strickland, who attended Windpower, announced a partnership between GE and the Lake Erie Energy Development Corp. to develop a fresh water offshore wind farm in Lake Erie. GE has committed to providing offshore wind turbines and maintenance services for an initial 20-MW wind farm. Completion is targeted for 2012.

Gamesa, Texas A&M To Partner on Large Wind Turbine

The Texas A&M University System and Gamesa Technology Corp. announced an agreement to pursue installation of Gamesa’s G10X 4.5-MW wind turbine at West Texas A&M University.
