What is the short, mid and long term future for solar development in North Africa and Middle East?

By CSP Today

The UN, World Bank, African Development Bank, IFC, and League of Arab States were just a few of the speakers at MENASOL 2010 held in Cairo on May 4-5. Over 300 solar professionals attended not only from the MENA region but many international companies in Europe and the USA. The key reason for all delegates to attend was to get the inside track on how to finance, develop and build utility scale solar projects in the MENA region.

‘The high level of  speakers were able to provide delegates with an amazingly comprehensive perspective on the commercial and private sectors on the solar landscape in the MENA region…this knowledge is instrumental for anyone wanting to business in the region.’ Heidi Hafes, Event Director,  CSP Today.

Delegates left the conference with very some valuable content, including:

Insight on the country specific solar programs and regulations, including representatives from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Yemen and Jordan. In addition to the biggest billion dollar solar initiatives in the region such as Mediterranean Solar Plan, DESERTEC and JOAN1

Lessons learned from plants constructed and under construction from the top project developers and EPC contractors; Abengoa, Acciona, Foster Wheeler and Orascom

The perspective of private financiers that have invested in the region or are looking to invest such as the European Investment Bank, Deustche Bank, Standard Chartered, African Development Bank, World Bank, IFC, Instrata Capital and Catalyst Private Equity

What technology is best suited for the region, how do you overcome the technical challenges and who are the local suppliers with innovative and cost effective solutions?

Due to the immense interest and demand, the organizers of the event have decided to release the audio recordings and presentations from the event.
