Truck manufacturer offers environmental impact monitor

Latest news 03 June 2010

Fleet managers who are concerned about the environmental impact of their trucks may be interested to learn that one manufacturer is providing detailed environmental information about their vehicle.

All Volvo FE and FL trucks will now come with the company’s Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).

This is intended to allow buyers or owners of the trucks in Europe access to a “detailed lifecycle analysis of the vehicle’s environmental footprint”.

Anna Sjolin, global key account manager at Volvo Trucks, commented: “Customers can also use the EPD tool to verify their own environmental targets.

“Our largest customers, such as DHL, have highly ambitious targets for reducing their climate footprint. The environmental product declaration can help them choose the right measures and ensure the required effect is achieved.”

While customers will be able to see the emissions and effects of the vehicle’s production and disposal, the company claims that “more than 90 per cent of the truck’s environmental impact occurs during actual vehicle use”.
