Teleca, a supplier of solutions and services to the mobile industry, has joined the GENIVI Alliance.
The GENIVI Alliance is a global industry consortium of automotive, consumer electronics, and communication companies committed to driving the broad adoption of an In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) open source development platform.
The Alliance provides reference implementations, offering certification programs and fosters a vibrant open source IVI development community. The work of the Alliance aims to shorten development cycles, provide quicker time-to-market and reduced costs for companies developing IVI equipment and software.

Officials with Teleca said that automotive manufacturers, consumer electronics vendors and service provides wanting to develop products based on the GENIVI Platform can now take advantage of the company’s extensive Open Source (News – Alert) Software experience and development capabilities, global scale, and track record of working on the most innovative platforms.
“The market for in-car entertainment and services is changing rapidly with more and more consumers are looking for a wide range of connected experiences form navigation to mobile video and gaming,” said Andrew Till, vice president, solutions marketing, in a statement.
Till said that by joining the GENIVI Alliance Teleca will be able to keep abreast of the latest market developments and bring extensive experience in mobile Linux and Open Source Software to the Alliance members.
He said that Teleca is looking forward to engaging in what is a very exciting and influential forum.
Earlier this month, Teleca announced support for the new Intel Atom processor-based platform across both Android (News – Alert) and MeeGo based software stacks.
The company, using its extensive systems integration expertise, built a demonstrator which offers an optimized, differentiated Android experience based on the latest Intel (News – Alert)-based platform for mobile devices. It also announced support for future MeeGo-based solutions.
The Atom processor Z6xx series was recently introduced by Intel and is designed to deliver high performance for a visually compelling, full Internet based experience across smartphone and tablet market segments. Teleca worked closely with Intel and Aava Mobile to deliver this aforementioned demonstrator.
