Conclusion of the Energy Conservation Society’s Cycle Rally at Trivadrum, Kerala, INDIA !

Energy Conservation Society, jointly with the University of Calicut and the National Services Scheme had organised a State Energy Protection Cycle Rally which started from Calicut University, on the 17th of September 2010 and ended in Trivandrum on the 22nd, which was designated as a National Cycle Day here in India and also a Car Free Road Day, internationally. The rally was to increase the awarness of energy saving amoungst the common people of Kerala. The video clip shows the 35 participants along with their leader Mr Soman, Secretary of the ECS, accompanied by Minister of Transport, Kerala Government, arriving at the Institution of Engineers, Kerala chapter, office in Trivandrum where the conclusion of the event was organised. Mind you these cyclists were arriving there after covering more than 500 kmss pread over 5 days, a commendable achievement indeed !

Energy Conservation: Reducing Energy Overconsumption of University Laboratories

Overconsumption of energy is a problem that many individuals overlook and a problem that needs to be addressed at Rutgers University. With all the activities that occur on a daily basis at the University, energy may not be used responsibly and as efficiently as it should. As a first step, it is imperative to monitor the energy consumption in buildings in order to make proper assessments. Our group’s project proposes that individuals visit labs in order to gather data on the usage of the devices in the lab. With this data an assessment of the laboratory’s energy consumption will be made. This will be followed with a consultation with the laboratory’s principal investigator explaining to them any issues and problems with their devices and offering ways to improve the efficiency of their laboratory’s energy consumption. For our service project our group was able to visit 20 labs at Foran Hall located on Cook Campus, and made an assessment of that laboratory’s electrical devices. Upon completion of the visit, an assessment was made and we were able to consult the principal investigator on ways to improve their laboratories energy consumption efficiency.
