Carbon dioxide emissions from construction companies’ supply chains could be brought under control with the use of a new energy efficiency monitor, which has been approved by the government.
The Environment Agency has approved The Certified Emissions Measurement and Reduction Scheme (CEMARS), the chosen certification standard for Achilles’ carbonReduction programme.
An organisation can use the carbonReduction programme to measure, manage, report and verify its own carbon footprint and that of its suppliers.
It is currently the only scheme in the UK which is certified in line with standards laid out in ISO14064 Part 1 and is recognised across the major global economies.
Lucy D’Arville, director of carbon reduction services at Achilles, commented: “This is a sensible decision that now offers companies affected by the Carbon Reduction Commitment a choice of standard for achieving their Early Action Metric.”
She added that the recognition validates Achilles’ choice of CEMARS as its certification standard, “which is the world’s first internationally accredited greenhouse gas certification scheme”.
Construction companies already participating in the carbonReduction programme include Laing O’Rourke and Balfour Beatty.
