Steve Jobs E-mails Users about iPhone Issues

By Ed Silverstein TMCnet Contributor Steve Jobs (News – Alert) is giving some extra insight into the new iPhone 4, based on a few e-mails responses he sent out to users recently.
SlashGear reports that in one email, the Apple CEO – responding to a question how users are meant to put people on hold now that the in-call button was replaced by a FaceTime (News – Alert) icon – said the hold button “doesn’t do anything more than Mute.”
In addition, TechCrunch explains that if a user is on a call with another iPhone 4 user, and both users are connected to WiFi (News – Alert), they will see a new FaceTime button in the bottom row of the call options.
This new button replaces the “Hold” button found on all other iPhones, TechCrunch reported. So how do you put a call on hold now? Jonathan Cowperthwait had emailed Jobs to find out how to put a call on hold, TechCrunch reported.
Another question was raised if the iPhone (News – Alert) would ever support WiFi syncing between it and iTunes on a Mac, and was told by Jobs “Yep, someday”.That information comes from a posting on Twitter by Rick Proctor.
And Jobs gave advice to a user named “Aram” on how iPhone 4 users can avoid the reception issues some have reported when holding the smartphone in the bottom left-hand corner.
Aram emailed Jobs that he loves the new iPhone but when he puts his hands on the steel bands, he loses all reception. “Any plans to fix this?”“Just avoid holding it in that way,” Jobs responded, as reported by Engadget.
SlashGear responded that Jobs’ advice was not that different from the company’s official statement, and “not all that reassuring either.”Here’s the official Apple (News – Alert) statement as reported by Engadget:
“Gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.”
In a related matter, TMCnet reported that after the pre-order fiasco that occurred earlier this month, Apple pushed back the expected ship date of the iPhone 4 for customers lucky enough to be able to pre-order one on June 15.
