Homeowners can boost the energy efficiency levels of their homes by fitting solar panels, it has been claimed.
Not only are homeowners with solar panels in place able to benefit from cheap and sustainable energy once the technology has been fitted, thanks to the government’s Feed-in Tariff scheme they are also able to make money by channelling any excess power into the National Grid.
According to microgeneration users’ website YouGen, the presence of solar panels can help homeowners ‘change their relationship’ with electricity, thereby making their properties more energy efficient overall.
“Having solar panels makes me think about when I run the dishwasher, or the washing machine,” the site’s Cathy Debenham told the Daily Telegraph.
“Now that we will have bills that take outgoing energy into account as well as what we’re buying, there’s even more incentive for us to reduce our use of the imported stuff.”
Meanwhile, a school in the Muswell Hill part of London has been fitted with 24 solar panels capable of providing low-cost energy while also encouraging students to think more about the environment, the Haringey Independent has reported.
