A leading car manufacturer is continuing its search for Europe’s greenest driver.
Vauxhall has offered environmentally-minded drivers the opportunity of driving away one of the first Vauxhall Amperas.
The model is the first production-class extended-range electric vehicle.
Competitors have already been through the first phase of the competition by answering general knowledge questions on eco-driving.
For phase two, the hopefuls have to take part in a driving simulator to assess just how economical their driving really is.
Finally, one UK winner from the first two stages will be put head-to-head against European winners at a competition in Sweden later this summer.
Interest in electrical vehicles appears to be growing in the UK.
The Evening Gazette in the north-east reported that a trial of electric Smart cars held in the area proved a success.
Neil Ellison, sustainability manager at Stockton Council, commented: “Staff were impressed by the performance, the smoothness and quietness of the drive.
“The response was ‘if these are electric cars, then give me more’.”
