The George Washington University Medical Center, an interdisciplinary academic health center located in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, has announced that the Board of Trustees of The George Washington University have voted to approve the formation of a new Nursing school, which will be known as the GW School of Nursing.

The Medical Center comprises of a number of medical institutions and organizations, including the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, the School of Public Health and Health Services, the GW Hospital that is jointly owned and operated by a partnership between The George Washington University and a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc., and The GW Medical Faculty Associates, an independent medical group that consists around 550 physicians in 47 clinical specialties.
After its establishment, the new nursing school will offer a variety of academic programs and courses to the students, such as the Master of Science in Nursing programs, the Doctor of Nursing Practice program, the second degree Bachelor of Science in nursing program, and other post-masters certificate programs. All the programs are already being conducted through the Department of Nursing Education through the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
