By Susan J. Campbell TMCnet Contributing Editor Scalable Display Technologies, a provider of software for multi-projector display systems, has announced the immediate availability of ScalableDesktop. This software application is designed to automatically blend and warp arrays of projectors to display seamless Windows 7 or Vista desktops.
“High-definition displays are lagging when it comes to the ability of today’s computers and graphics cards to generate pixels,”said Andrew Jamison, CEO of Scalable Display Technologies, in a statement. “Users are seeking creative alternatives to achieving ultra-high resolution displays for a wide range of applications. Our beta customers have quickly embraced ScalableDesktop as a unique and effective tool for overcoming the limitations of today’s HD displays.”
ScalableDesktop is based on Scalable Display’s patented camera feedback technology and is able to edge blend and warp arrays of up to six projectors to enable nearly any standard Windows desktop application to be viewed as an ultra-high resolution dispay, without requiring external hardware.
This new Scalable Display Technologies’ solution is considered to be ideal for a wide range of applications, such as conference rooms, lecture halls, touch walls, wide-screen gaming, commercial and military simulation environments. This solution is designed to empower end users to create an ultra-high resolution display of their desktops that is perfectly edge-blended and color corrected.
The ScalableDesktop includes software that operates on any Windows 7 or Vista PC without the need for an expensive video wall controller; is quick to set-up and easy to use without a technician; offers, ultra-high resolution display that is scalable to six projectors for large, high-resolution displays; delivers automatic geometric alignment; provides for automatic edge-blending – no bright regions where projectors overlap; and a flexible configuration.
“Our experience with Scalable Display and its auto-calibration solutions has always been topnotch, so we had high expectations when we heard about its new desktop warping technology,”said Bill Othick, CEO of BOI Solutions. “As a company focused on media collaboration for key Fortune 50 companies, we look for simple, high-impact solutions that improve how our customers analyze and interact with various software applications. ScalableDesktop delivers in offering the easy setup and excellent display quality that our customers look for, especially when it comes to recalibrating products like our portable visualization walls on demand.”
This software-only solution includes Scalable Display’s flagship EasyBlend multi-projector calibration software, making it easy for users to build a complete system using a mid- to high-level PC, a graphics card and two to six projectors, depending on the desired configuration.
“Touch walls are becoming more and more mainstream as the need for collaboration and interaction with data among multiple users grows,”said Mark Miller, managing partner of Miller & Associates. “Using ScalableDesktop, we’re able to create even larger, multi-projector displays for the office, conference rooms and public access touch walls, where the entire resolution is self-maintaining.”
