A recent report has suggested that the UK could reuse small empty sites of land to meet the country’s housing demand.
According to the Federation of Master Builders and the London School of Economics and Political Science, reusing these sites could stop the need to use green field land for housing.
However, this plan will only meet the country’s needs if it is also coupled with upgrading and converting existing homes and remodelling empty properties.
The economy would also benefit from this solution, the groups suggested.
Every small and medium-sized building businesses in the country would have enough work to stay for the next 30 years simply by making homes “greener and more energy efficient” as homeowners begin to realise the benefits of energy efficiency.
The study follows the announcement of the new energy bill at the end of last month (May 25th).
Implementing a framework to guide the development of a smart grid that will “revolutionise the management of supply and demand for electricity” was a major part of the bill.
