Hi! My name is Bob Mitchell and this is the first blog of what I hope to be many about my advetures in Renewable Energy. I titled it, “” because that is what I’m in the process of doing right now.
You see, for the last 27 years I was in the real estate and mortgage banking fields where I experienced a fair amount of success. Having started in the field as a property manager and residential real estate agent right after my first collegiate experince at the University of Missouri – Columbia. I later went into mortgage banking where I helped grow a young start up company to be a leader in our market.
In 1994 I ventured out on my own and opened what turned out to be the third oldest “discount” real estate company in the country. With the help of some wonderful people I grew ValueList Real Estate Services into a fairly sizable company with offices in three states.
Unfortunately, as with a lot of different companies in real estate and particularly mortgage banking, we got caught up in the huricane that eventually grew into the recession that we are now experiencing.
To make a long story short, we did our best to weather the storm and actually were back on the upswing when I stumbled across an article in Outside magazine about “green jobs” in the renewable energy field. The article captured my attention and I began to research the issues of global warming and ocean acidification.
The more I read on these topics the more I realized that while I was on the way back towards profitabiltiy with my company that real estate and mortgage banking weren’t what I was passionate about anymore. I saw a giant need for us as a species to not only “lessen” our dependence on carbon based fuels, but to do away with our utilization of them as a fuel source period!
So, here I am! I am currently enrolled in the Renewable Energy Technology program at Columbia Gorge Community College. I hope to utilize this blog to tell the story of my adventures in my quest to reinvent myself. If it also serves the purpose of helping me to network my way into a job when I graduate, all the better!
I look forward to conversing with you all. If you ever have any questions or comments, I would sincerely love to hear them! Thank you for taking the time to read this!
Bob
