RCN Metro Optical Networks has announced that it is going to offer its Ethernet services to local, national, and international service providers via Ethernet Exchange Carriers in New York City and Chicago at bandwidths from 1 Mbps to 10 Gbps.
More regions will be added in the coming months. A division of RCN Corporation (News – Alert), RCN Metro deals in fiber optic-based network solutions.
For delivering its Ethernet services across networks, RCN Metro has teamed with leading Ethernet Exchange Carriers including CENX (News – Alert), Equinix and Neutral Tandem.
RCN Metro’s participation in Ethernet exchanges represents the company’s commitment to expanding the distribution of its Ethernet services through these leading edge exchanges designed to facilitate these types of interconnections.
“RCN Metro has valuable assets in our local Ethernet service offerings; standardized network interconnections will make it easier for wholesale carriers to purchase and sell our Ethernet services without compromising our service differentiation,” said Felipe Alvarez (News – Alert), President of RCN Metro. “The Ethernet exchanges deliver an efficient and cost effective method of interconnecting on a one-to-many basis.”
RCN Metro’s Ethernet service delivers an efficient, fully restorable, easily managed network by combining the reliability and ubiquity of Ethernet with next-generation transport technology. The result is a service that RCN Metro’s Ethernet Service offers dedicated point-to-point, switched point-to-multipoint and multipoint-to-multipoint Layer 2 service over dedicated access bandwidth, which enables the extension of LAN infrastructure for WAN connectivity as well as point-to-point private line services.
RCN Metro boasts an extensive bouquet of services including: Ethernet, SONET, Wavelength, Video Transport, Internet and more. In another article, TMCnet reported that RCN Metro Optical Networks (News – Alert) has been selected by Compliance, LP, one of the largest legal staffing and project management firms in the world as its primary network services provider.
