Quentin Willson: Electric cars will win over the public

Motoring journalist Quentin Willson has claimed that the public will be won over by electric cars as soon as they take them for a test drive.

He predicted that consumers will “adore how quiet, fast, smooth and futuristic they are” and noted that the alternative fuel vehicles will allow drivers to get around “quickly, easily, simply, cleanly and silently”.

Providing a boost for electric powered cars, the Nissan Leaf was named Car of the Year this week, the first electric car to win the prestigious award in its 46-year history.

When the model goes on sale in the UK next year, motorists will be able to take advantage of the government’s Plug-In Car Grant, providing up to £5,000 towards the cost of the vehicle.

Mr Willson added that while infrastructure for EVs is improving across the country, consumers can charge EVs in their own home.

“Charging it shouldn’t really be a barrier unless you live in a flat. You can go to a normal plug and find it’s even easier than queuing for petrol at a petrol station,” he explained.
