Qualcomm and CK Telecom Sign License Agreement

San Diego, Calif.-based provider of advanced wireless technologies, products and services Qualcomm Incorporated has entered into a subscriber unit and modem card/module license agreement with China based CK Telecom (Heyuan) Limited, an ODM and OEM for wireless terminal products.

As per the agreement, Qualcomm (News – Alert) has granted CK Telecom a worldwide patent license to develop, manufacture and sell WCDMA and TD-SCDMA subscriber units and modem cards/modules.  CK Telecom will pay Qualcomm royalties at the company’s standard worldwide rates.

“CK Telecom has been playing a role in manufacturing, R&D, marketing and technical support services in the telecommunications industry since 2001,” said Derek Aberle, executive vice president of Qualcomm and president of Qualcomm Technology Licensing.  “This agreement enables them to continue and expand their activities with a license to develop, manufacture and sell WCDMA and TD-SCDMA subscriber units, modem cards and modules.”

“Qualcomm is a leader in next-generation mobile broadband technologies,” said Roy Ho, CEO of CK Telecom (Heyuan) Limited. “We are pleased to enter into this licensing agreement with Qualcomm, which will serve to further strengthen CK Telecom’s competitive market position.”

CK Telecom (Heyuan) Limited has been focusing on improving its manufacturing capabilities in various aspects.  The company has also been looking into the potential of advanced mobile broadband technologies.

Qualcomm has a proven track record in developing and delivering innovative digital wireless communications products and services based on CDMA and other advanced technologies. In another article, TMCnet reported that Novatel Wireless (News – Alert), a provider of wireless broadband and solutions, has announced the completion of a technology transfer with Qualcomm for two of the company’s “Wearable Mobile Device” module designs.
