A new project has been launched to help green businesses in West Wales and the Valleys.
The £8.3 million SEREN project by Cardiff University will support businesses in developing new technologies and create up to 150 green jobs.
WDS Environmental is one of the first businesses to benefit. It will work with the SEREN project to develop ground source heating technology for domestic homes and commercial properties.
The firm has also been given £4.6 million from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Assembly Government and received support directly from Cardiff University.
“Our Economic Renewal programme highlights our commitment to helping business to commercialise research to develop the next generation of low carbon technologies is vital to position Wales as a world leader in this area and help meet our energy targets,” commented deputy first minister Ieuan Wyn Jones.
More homeowners could take up renewable heat systems in Wales once the government launches the Renewable Heat Incentive later this year.
