Professional tradesmen will not just do a job, but also provide additional services such as energy efficiency advice, one expert has said.
Blane Judd, chief executive at the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering, explained that many registered tradesmen such as professional plumbers will give customers guidance on how to reduce water consumption and save energy, as well as explain ways to make sure that a washing machine or dishwasher is not polluting the environment.
He noted that if waste water from a home pollutes the environment after work being done incorrectly, it is the homeowner at fault rather than the plumber.
This, he says, “is down to the fact that we should be responsible with regards to who we employ to do the work on our premises”.
His comments come as the Energy Bill is passed through the House of Lords, which will insist that all Green Deal installers and builders are accredited and have a quality mark, providing customers will greater protection from ‘cowboy’ tradesmen.
