Planning permission has been granted for 148 homes to be built on the North Prospect estate in Plymouth as part of a £30 million regeneration programme.

The properties will be built to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes standard and a community hub will also be built.

Using more than £3.9 million from the Homes and Communities Agency to build 80 affordable homes in the first phase of the project, the new energy efficient properties will dramatically reduce the energy bills of the tenants.

Mike Knowles, programme director at Plymouth Community Homes, said: “Our vision for North Prospect is working with residents to create an environment where people want to live and work, now and in the future. This investment is vital and I’m happy to say that the journey with residents is now really underway.”

The site had been identified as a top priority for investment and once complete, hundreds of new homes will be built and many other refurbished to a higher standard.
