Marks & Spencer (M&S) has reported a 20 per cent decrease in the amount of packaging used for its food items.
The news comes three years after the launch of Plan A, the store’s guidelines to reduce its impact on the environment.
Around 417 million fewer carrier bags were used last year, compared to 2006/07 levels following the store’s decision to charge for their use.
In addition, the company managed to improve its in-store energy efficiency levels by 19 per cent.
