British motorists are wasting millions of pounds and emitting significantly more carbon dioxide by driving with underinflated tyres.
According to Michelin, many drivers are in the dark when it comes to tyre pressures, while many more are not taking it seriously enough.
The group pointed out that as well as using up more fuel, motorists driving with underinflated tyres are also putting their safety at risk.
Michelin is now offering free tyre checks at more than 50 locations across the UK to help drivers understand tyre pressures and drive more efficiently.
The company’s head of communications, Peter Snelling, said: “If all of the cars in the UK were running on correctly inflated tyres then motorists would save a considerable amount of money and as a result.”
Earlier this month, Michelin teamed up with Renault to offer free digital pressure gauges to motorists who buy Michelin’s fuel-efficient tyres from a Renault dealer in May and June.
