Motorists have been reminded that they can save money by making a few simple changes in their driving habits.
Mytyres.co.uk recommended checking that tyres have the legal minimum of a 1.6mm tread across two-thirds of the width of the tyre in a continuous band around the wheel.
The website also highlighted the need to check tyre pressure which is says is “vital” as “under inflation can lead to increased wear and drag which uses more fuel”.
Other tips from the website included checking for the cheapest local petrol retailer and making simple changes, such as removing a roof rack if it isn’t in use, as this alone could save around two per cent in fuel.
Drivers can also adjust their style on the roads by anticipating traffic flows and driving more smoothly in order to save fuel, the site suggested.
Last month, Bridgestone revealed that 81 per cent of more than 50,000 motorists assessed are driving on under-inflated tyres.
The tyre company claimed that this is leading to the annual equivalent of four billion litres of wasted fuel and 9.3 million tonnes of unnecessary carbon dioxide emissions.
