Mitsubishi is sending six of its electric i-MIEV cars to the north-east of England to take part in the next phase of the Smart Move trial.
The project has been devised by Cenex, the centre of excellence for low-carbon and fuel cell technologies, and regional development agency One North East.
During the first phase, drivers were offered the chance to test electric vehicles at public test drive events, while local authorities used them in their fleets.
It is hoped that the results of the trials will help manufacturers and the government boost take-up of green cars by providing them with insight into driver behaviour.
Lance Bradley, managing director of Mitsubishi Motors, said of the i-MIEV: “With a range of 80 miles, a top speed of 81mph, as well as minimal servicing and running costs and ample cabin space, it will prove that electric vehicles can be utilised without compromise in an organisation’s fleet.”
Results from the first phase of the Smart Move trials show that vehicle users and fleet managers felt more positive about electric cars after taking part.
