Low carbon buildings are to be at the centre of the design of a redevelopment project.
According to Willmott Dixon, the planning stage for the multimillion-pound transformation of Woking town centre will keep low carbon, sustainable buildings “at the centre of design thinking”.
The developer and contractor has joined forces with Carisbrooke and Woking Borough Council on the regeneration of the Woking Gateway.
Adjacent to the mainline train station, the 5.7 acre site is a mix of residential, leisure, commercial and retail space.
Andrew Telfer, chief executive of Willmott Dixon’s regeneration department, commented: “In keeping with Woking’s sustainable credentials as a net exporter of energy, we will make sure low carbon is part of that planning process.”
Neil Young, Carisbrooke’s director, added that planning permission should be achieved within two years.
He noted that the community and the council will be involved in “close consultation” throughout the process.
