Loss of biodiversity ‘important climate change factor’

The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has called for action to be taken against the loss of ecosystems and species in a study published back in 2002.

However, in 2010, the CBD has published its report Global Biodiversity Outlook 3 which claims that there has been a “worldwide failure” to meet targets set out in the earlier research.

The latest report looks at the fact that many people are unaware of the economic impact which a loss of diversity would bring.

Annual losses as a result of deforestation and forest degradation alone may equate to losses of up to $4.5 trillion (
