Let Me Pick Your Brain…

I stumbled across RenewableEnergyWorld.com  about a week ago while doing some research on the world of renewable energy and I have been very impressed by the intelligence of the folks that post here and the wide variety of perspectives that are brought to bear on the subject.

The reason that I began looking deeper into the field is twofold.  The first is simply because I’ve caught the renewable energy bug and find the entire topic to be fascinating and the second is more self-serving in that in a few months I’m going to be graduating from Columbia Gorge Community College’s Renewable Energy Technology program and am going to need a job!

That in mind, I’ve been working on trying to figure out how to best position myself to take advantage of the experience and skills that I developed in my previous career (in real estate and mortgage banking) along with the technical training that I’m receiving now that I’m in school.

Which brings me to the point of this post, I want you to tell me what you think about the field.

How would YOU approach getting into the field?

Where do YOU think that the biggest opportunities are going to exist?

Who would YOU want to work for?

Along with these general questions, I would also like to know your specific opinions on a couple of questions that I have such as:

“If I’m interested in large scale projects, such as concentrated solar or large scale wind, can I get a job in sales or marketing without an Engineering degree?

“Will my age (I’m currently 49 years old) be held against me in attempting to get a job or will my salt and pepper “do” be appreciated?

Anyway, I’d love to hear your opinions and to quote Ross Perot, “I’m all ears” when it comes to your advice!
