The new coalition government between the Conservative party and the Liberal Democrats has agreed to push forward to development of a nation-wide network supporting electric vehicles.

In their manifesto, the Tories had already outlined its support of low-emission hybrid and electric vehicles.

According to What Green Car, “there is every likelihood” that government will build on the schemes implemented by Labour, including the Plug-In Car scheme, which began developing the infrastructure required to support electric vehicles.

In another move which could cut carbon dioxide emissions from transport, the new government has abolished plans to build a third runway at Heathrow and also intends to block expansion proposals for Stansted and Gatwick.

Furthermore , the coalition will continue with the development of a high-speed rail network in the UK.

Philip Hammond of the Conservative party was announced as the new transport secretary in government, while Chris Huhne, a Liberal Democrat, was given the post of energy and climate change secretary.
