Getting A Grip! Grasping All The Ins and Outs of the Renewable Energy Biz

Thanks for checking out my second post here on Renewable Energy World!  If you didn’t read my first, let me introduce myself again and explain why I’m writing here.

My name is Bob Mitchell and I am in the process of training for my new career in Renewable Energy.  After closing my real estate and mortgage companies down (who can blame me, right?) I caught the renewable energy bug and moved to Oregon to get trained at Columbia Gorge Community College.

So, for the last couple of months I’ve been studying electrical theory, math and hydraulics.  All interesting stuff, but what I haven’t had a chance to study is the “Big Picture” of our energy situation.

Like most American’s I’ve heard of “Green Energy”, but when I started to read up on the subject things seem to get complicated really fast!  There seems to be a lot of misinformation and contradictory statements about just about everything related to the field.

I guess that this is to be expected considering the youth of the industry and the vested interests that the industry is going up against, but if I can’t make heads or tails out of it being in a situation where I am spending 60 hours a week studying it, what is the general public to make of it all?

One thing that I know for a fact is that, “A Confused Mind Says No”.  And it makes me wonder how is the public supposed to accept renewables (especially if they end up costing them more) when there are so many differing opinions out there.  Even among the proponents of the various renewables?

I’m not expecting everyone to move in unison, but you seldom hear the coal companies slamming the oil companies, do you?

Anyway, I’m here to learn and your comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
