With the number of people interacting in the digital and wireless world increasing, and with threats to the cyber world growing, security concerns have also grown exponentially, and the concept of online identity protection appears to have become more vulnerable than ever before.  Gemalto is at the heart of our evolving digital society. The freedom to communicate, travel, shop, bank, entertain, and work anytime, anywhere, has become an integral part of what people want and expect, in ways that are convenient, enjoyable and secure. Acknowledged in the world of digital security, Gemalto (News – Alert) announced the launch of a series of new laser-personalized innovations, which have been designed to fortify the security of official identity documents.  With billions of people worldwide demanding mobile connectivity, identity and data protection, credit card safety, health and transportation services, e-government and national security have taken on new dimensions, and Gemalto has introduced advanced security features that are available immediately as additional options in the Gemalto Sealys line of secure identity products.    These new security features can be applied on the polycarbonate card bodies of documents such as ID cards, healthcare cards, driver’s license, vehicle registration, voting and resident permit cards. The highly sophisticated technology used to counter forgery still remains easily verifiable by officials, who verify their authenticity. Legitimate holders are hence not inconvenienced.  The Sealys Edge Sealer, as the name suggests, laser-etches documents along the edge and contains the owner’s name or ID number. The enhanced Changeable Laser Image, again very suggestive, enables a third field of information to be etched into the document, and depending on the angle with which the document is read, the information changes. The Sealys Core mark is a translucent window embedded within the polycarbonate card body, provides a watermark effect. Verifying such a plastic document is very easy. “The development and integration of these new advanced features are part of our ongoing commitment to constant improvements of the security of our products,” Frédéric Trojani, Senior Vice President of Government Programs, Gemalto, said.  Trojani, expounding on the expertise of the company said that the use of such sophisticated technologyin the security domain spoke volumes of its superiority in that domain, and claimed that the company would always be in a position to offer government and its agencies customers the best tools to combat fraud, and would also ensure that the tools could be easily used by all. Gemalto is the world leader in digital security with 2009 annual revenues of approx $ 2 billion, and over 10,000 employees operating out of 75 offices, with research and service centers in 41 countries. In a related news item, Gemalto announced that it has been selected by Japan’s KDDI (News – Alert), a leading mobile communication provider with over 31 million subscribers, to provide its User Identity Module cards and Trusted Service Management solution for their Near Field communication program.
