Formula 1 designer Gordon Murray has turned his attention from super cars to city vehicles, unveiling a new electric motor designed for urban driving.
His T.25 car is a three-seater vehicle which weighs just 550kg and, at 1.3 metres wide and 2.4 metres long, is smaller than the Smart Fortwo.
The seats can be moved around, enabling drivers to enjoy between 160 and 720 litres of boot space depending on their requirements.
Its ultra-lightweight body lowers fuel consumption and it boasts CO2 emissions of 48k/gm. Its 25kw electric motor is powered using a lithium-ion battery.
The car’s range is expected to be up to 100 miles and it has a top speech of around 65 miles per hour.
Commenting on the new car, Mr Murray said he expects it to be “a new British icon for the 21st century”.
Meanwhile, production of the Toyota Auris hybrid vehicle has been officially launched at the manufacturer’s Deeside plant in North Wales.
