Edinburgh has opened a new development of affordable energy efficient homes.
The buildings were unveiled yesterday (June 14th) at the Western Harbour in Newhaven.
Alex Neil, housing minister for Scotland, commented: “This government has invested significant funding to help build these homes and everyone involved in this housing development is to be congratulated for delivering high quality, energy efficient affordable homes for the people of Edinburgh.
“It will also help with the ongoing regeneration of north Edinburgh.”
The scheme welcomes 102 households to the new block of energy efficient homes, which is the first of four proposed sites for housing development at Western Harbour.
Ground source heating has been used in the properties in a bid to improve the energy efficiency of the homes.
New resident Helen Philips said the “environmentally-friendly features will also be a real help with utilities bills”.
She added that there was already a “real sense of community” within the properties.
