The market for improving the energy efficiency of homes in the UK is “big”.
This is according to Chris Huhne, the climate change secretary.
Mr Huhne has given a speech today at the UK Energy Summit, emphasising the need to reduce the energy consumption of houses.
“The market is big,” he said. “There are currently up to 14 million homes in the UK which could benefit from insulation under the Green Deal.
“We are working on the package for each home, which could unlock tens of billions of spending in the coming years.”
The minister explained the government’s Green Deal plan, which involves financing home insulation in the UK through energy bills.
He added that sending the “right signal to the energy efficiency industry, providing investment confidence and job opportunities” could allow the green sector to make contributions to the overall growth of the UK economy.
