Educational Technology Week in Review

This week in educational technology, AT&T announced a new 3G cell site that will enhance coverage for students, faculty and staff on the MIT (News – Alert) campus, Pearson will hold an EdTech expo to help educators, Compucom Software Limited was awarded the contract for the School Computer Education Project in India’s largest state of Rajasthan, Crimson Oak Academy released an innovative BlackBerry (News – Alert) application in the form of a study tool and civil rights, labor and environmental organizations urged Congress to clarify the FCC’s (News – Alert) authority to protect an Open Internet and apply Universal service funding to broadband.

 As part of its continuing network investment to support growing demand for advanced mobile devices and applications, on June 18, 2010, AT&T (News – Alert) announced the activation of a new 3G cell site that will enhance coverage for students, faculty and staff on the MIT campus as well as area residents and businesses. With 3G speeds, AT&T customers can surf the Web, download files faster, and enjoy the very latest interactive mobile applications. Pearson announced the launch of its virtual EdTech Expo, a weeklong, online conference that helps America’s educators to explore exhibits, attend sessions and chat with their peers and industry experts in real time.  Compucom Software Limited, a software and education company, has been awarded School Computer Education Project in India’s largest state of Rajasthan. Officials with Compucom Software said that this order valued over US $ 16.70 million is to provide computer education on BOOT basis in 1550 government schools of Rajasthan. The officials added that out of 2,000 schools in 7 zones which were offered, Compucom has been awarded 1,550 schools in 5 zones capturing 77.5 percent of the offering covering students in class 9th to 12th.  To make preparation for GMAT exam easier, Crimson Oak Academy has released an innovative BlackBerry (News – Alert) application in the form of a study tool. Around 200,000 young professionals sit for the GMAT examination every year as GMAT is a pre-requisite for entry to competitive MBA programs. The new mobile application as a study tool will be very useful for examinees. The Crimson Oak GMAT Test Prep App may be the first GMAT study tool on the BlackBerry platform said, official sources. Leaders representing eight national civil rights, labor, and environmental organizations urged Congress to act quickly to clarify the FCC’s authority to protect an Open Internet and apply Universal Service funding to broadband. Their letter to Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Chairman John D. Rockefeller and House Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry A. Waxman follows statements by Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski (News – Alert) which welcomed legislative action by Congress today.
