DJ Mark Goodier has become the first Briton to power his electric vehicle (EV) with renewable energy, making it totally free from carbon emissions.

The Smooth Radio DJ took delivery of a Nissan Leaf on the day it launched in the UK and has now installed 12 solar panels on the roof of his home to supply its alternative fuel, the Daily Mail reported.

“The days of sitting in queues at petrol stations and wincing as I pay the extortionate cost of fuel are over,” he told the news provider.

“Every time I plug-in on my driveway, I know it’s not costing me or the environment anything, which is a great feeling.”

Indeed, the renewable electricity generated from the solar panels charges his car in eight hours, giving him enough power to make the 20-mile round-trip commute. He also has enough electricity to sell back to the grid and benefit from the government’s feed-in tariff.

Speaking about the future of EVs, Mr Goodier said: “We will all be doing this in the future and it is great to be setting the trend.”
