A computer company has been awarded a prize for its innovative packaging designs.
Litl announced that its web book computer had been given a “prestigious design award” from ID Magazine for its creative packaging.
The designs will allow the company to ship its computers in their own boxes, reducing the firm’s carbon footprint by “eliminating the need for additional boxes and minimising the space needed for transportation”.
In addition, the entire parcel is made from recyclable paper with no use of plastics or foam.
Additional features included adapting the traditional lengthy instruction manual.
As a replacement, the company worked with illustrator David Macaulay in order to develop several “whimsical cards” to guide the user through the use of the computer.
Earlier this year the UK retail sector pledged to reduce its carbon footprint by altering its packaging techniques.
Under the Courtauld Commitment, 28 major retailers and food brands pledged to reduce the carbon emissions associated with of grocery packaging by ten per cent on 2009 levels by 2012.
