The government’s Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) went live on April 1st.
Designed to improve the energy efficiency of businesses in the UK, the commitment will be gradually implemented over the course of this year before being enforced in 2011.
Before this enforcement the Environment Agency published a case study in order to provide more detail on the impact of the CRC on the automotive industry.
Following the report, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) and the Retail Motor Industry Federation have taken steps to ensure that the automotive retail network fulfils its obligations to the CRC.
Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, commented: “While initially complicated, the CRC incentivises dealerships to reduce their energy use and effectively cut their costs.
“Vehicle manufacturers and franchised dealers will have to work closely over the next 12 months to improve their energy efficiency and this can only result in better working relationships within the industry.”
