Coca-Cola has begun tests on an aerodynamic truck design in a bid to analyse and reduce its fuel consumption.
The Bevan21 is the fast access curtainslider body being used in the trials, Transport News Network reported.
In addition to the contoured container, Coca-Cola is also running a standard flat-roofed version to assess the differences when both are hooked up to an Iveco Stralis six-wheeler cab.
Darren O’Donnell, logistics asset manager for the drinks manufacturer, said: “We will now be running the two trucks head-to-head over the next six to nine months, to see whether the more streamlined unit can deliver any worthwhile benefits in terms of fuel savings.”
Following tests on the aerodynamic body, Coca-Cola predict fuel savings of around 15 per cent.
Mr O’Donnell added: “At Coca-Cola we’re committed to doing everything we possibly can to limit our fuel consumption and, by extension, our carbon footprint.
“That’s why we’re always among the first to adopt the latest technology, such as the clean green EEV engines which we now specify on all our vehicles.”
