Co-op supermarket gets green roof

4.5 million green makeover with a brand new eco roof.

The Co-op store in Oakham has been fitted with a ZinCo roof from Alumasc, which will harvest rainwater for use within the building.

Solar panels are also included on the roof to provide energy to heat the building’s hot water supplies, delivering significant reductions in carbon emissions.

In addition, the roof will help to reduce air and noise pollution whilst acting as a habitat for plants and wildlife in the area.

Alumasc supplies a variety of ZinCo roofs, some of which, like the one installed at the Co-op supermarket, require little maintenance and minimal irrigation.

Others are more intensive and can be used for public and recreational use.

Last month, ZinCo roofs won a Green Roof Award from the National Federation of Roofing Contractors thanks to the company’s installation at Rockliffe Park Hotel near Darlington.
