CAT to attend Climate Emergency Rally

The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) will join other organisations this weekend for a Climate Emergency Rally to highlight ways that the UK can reduce carbon emissions in transport and other industries.

Coinciding with major climate talks among UN members in Cancun, Mexico, the event on December 4th will focus on creating a zero carbon Britain by 2030.

Speaking ahead of the event, Paul Allen, external relations director at CAT, said: “The cuts we really should be talking about are the cuts in carbon emissions, we cannot bail out the climate in the same way that we have bailed out the economy. We only have one chance.”

The organisation will highlight points made in its report Zero Carbon Britain, published earlier this year, which stated that in the transport sector, a 63 per cent carbon emissions reduction could be achieved.

It stated that by switching from petrol and diesel-powered vehicles to electric and battery-powered alternative fuel cars, the nation could dramatically eliminate carbon from the transport network.

Other priorities include replacing domestic and short-haul flights with rail and bus services.
