The Welsh capital is to trial a new environmentally-friendly transport system for three months.
Free to use, the service will replace two traditional buses with a new electrical people carrier.
It is primarily aimed at wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility and is designed to help them get about in the heart of the city.
Councillor Delme Bowen, executive member for transport, commented: “The new bus is environmentally friendly and by trialling different routes we hope to be able to provide as near to a door-to-door service as we possibly can.
“Combined with the extension of the shopmobility scheme, we aim to provide a city centre that is even more accessible for all shoppers, no matter what their circumstances.”
The scheme will be supported and jointly funded by the Welsh Assembly Government’s Sustainable Travel City Grant.
It is one part of the city’s “transport evolution” which aims to encourage travel by foot, bike and public transport in order to reduce congestion and vehicle carbon dioxide emissions.
