British drivers need to take into account the running costs involved with owning a car, it has been suggested.
This is according to research conducted by Carmony.co.uk, which revealed that only half of Brits consider fuel consumption and car tax when making a purchase.
Petrol prices are also climbing steadily as the government gradually increases the tax of fuel.
Alan Hazelhurst, managing director at Carmony, commented: “Motoring is becoming increasingly expensive and as the government prepares to deliver its emergency Budget, drivers are inevitably going to be hit hard.
“But there are some very simple changes to driver habits that everyone can employ, which can make a real difference.”
The top tips from the website include changing gear early and driving smoothly in order to maximise fuel efficiency.
In addition, sticking to the 70 mph speed limit on the motorway could use as much as 25 per cent less fuel than driving at 80 mph.
