BBC to investigate electric vehicle infrastructure

Latest news 05 June 2010

The BBC is to produce a series of programmes based around a long distance journey in an electric vehicle (EV).

BBC Electric Ride will see a broadcast team visit a dozen European countries on a journey of over 4,000 miles.

THINK, the Scandinavian EV manufacturer, provided a new THINK City vehicle to the company for the experience.

Kevin Dawson, senior producer of the show, commented: “We want to look at the emergence of electric cars as a dawning reality.

“We’ll be investigating the technology, infrastructure and political will behind the growth of EV culture.”

He added: “Our choice of car came down to practicalities. We chose the THINK City because it is a ready-to-market fully electric vehicle, with a good driving range and respectable top speed.”

The show will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4, BBC News and BBC Online from June 19th.
